What is ODVA certification?
ODVA is a standards development organization that strives to advance open, interoperable communication in industrial automation. In addition to managing EtherNet/IP, ODVA offers conformance testing for FieldServer and other manufacturers of interoperable products.
Keep in mind that ODVA’s conformance testing process is objective, independent, and thorough, which means that FieldServer’s compliance with ODVA’s EtherNet/IP standards is verified and confirmed without bias.

What is BTL certification?
BTL oversees the global BACnet functions to test and certify that new BACnet-equipped devices function as intended. In addition to establishing test requirements and issuing product certifications, BTL maintains a worldwide database of all tested BACnet products, including MSA FieldServer products.
Of course, FieldServer is just one of the many solution providers offering BTL-tested and certified equipment to help ensure that your devices will play nicely with BACnet and devoid of any interoperability issues. Completed Tests
Behind every product that is ODVA or BTL certified is one very important thing: assurance that the product is compliant with defined standards and specifications to help you achieve interoperability of devices, regardless of who manufactured the device.
Although ODVA and BTL have their own set of specifications, in general, here’s an overview of the conformance test experience:
- A development engineer initiates a test service request and declares conformity of the product.
- The development engineer submits a representative sample of the product along with any relevant documentation.
- A test engineer evaluates the product under the specifications of the organization and generates a test report.
- The test engineer and development engineer collaborate to clarify information and correct any issues found during testing.
- Once approved, the development engineer receives a Declaration of Conformity (DOC) from ODVA or, in the case of BTL, a Certificate of Conformance, BTL Listing and the right to use the BLT mark.
- Depending on the product and certifying organization, the certification may or may not have an expiration date or require a maintenance scenario.
